Hand Packer

Department: Production

Reports to: Production Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Job description includes but not limited to the following:
The Packer is to inspect, catch and package finished goods in designated boxes according to quality specification sheets, customer specifications and company policies. Adhere to food safety, legality, quality and company policies.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Inspect, Communicate and Discard

  • Inspect the finished goods for proper size, adequate coating of product, check for product that does not meet company standards, and keep product evenly dispersed on the conveyor belt. Communicate quality and equipment problems with both your Line Leader and Supervisor.
  • Pack onion rings with parchment between each layer while nesting the rings.
  • Responsible for discarding waste in the designated garbage bins.
  • Responsible for catching finished goods in properly labeled boxes, maintains packing rate that is consistent with the line speed and minimizes product losses through proper handling.
  • Responsible for the proper set-up of the packing area. Ensures the use of the correct packaging, labels and codes. Minimize over packing by maintaining standard weight for each individual product and minimize the amount of waste falling to the floor.
  • Package product at a rate consistent with the line speed. Ensures packaged product is properly closed. Sort out those materials that are sub-standard per quality specifications.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Work area maintained in a safe and clean environment at all times.
  • When line is down seek further direction from your line lead or supervisor as to what you can do to stay productive.
  • You must be able to rotate through four positions (catching, weighing, packaging and inspecting) at the standards set by each line.


Qualifications

  • Minimum High school diploma preferred but not required.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, extreme heat, and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate and will be loud in the plant.
