Department:  Purchasing

Reports to:  Purchasing Director

FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt

Job Description:
The ideal candidate is professional and motivated with a strong work ethic. Has the ability to prioritize responsibilities in a fast paced environment.  Candidate must be a team player yet able to work independently with little supervision.  Must be organized, flexible, analytical and detail oriented, be able to make good judgment decisions and to multitask. Position is responsible for the execution and optimization of daily purchasing activities and cost analysis.

Two key functions of this position are developing strong relationships in the supplier community while working to enhance and leverage cost improvements within the function.   

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily procurement duties of a buyer.
  • Select, develop and manage supply base for products and services, through bidding and award process, while supporting Plant Safety, Quality and Environmental Standards.
  • Create and maintain the metrics to evaluate the cost effectiveness of specific categories of spend and evaluate the supplier’s base for best quality and lowest cost alternatives.
  • Assist in the management of inventory control and accuracy of items and components in conjunction with necessary team members.        
  • Manage project activity and enhance operational performance efficiency.
  • Coordinate and manage continuous improvement initiatives focused on cost optimization and supplier relationship building.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams for problem solving and continuous improvement.
  • Special projects and other duties as assigned                           

Working Environment

The position provides an exciting combination of hands-on and technical analysis and administrative tasks. Time will be spent in the office. Work closely with quality auditors, production supervisors and managers.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 1 to 3 years’ experience in a purchasing position.
  • Must have a very strong project management experience & demonstrated functional success in this area.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Outlook and Office Suite.    
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to work with all levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to analyze and process large amounts of data, strong quantitative and analytical skills and ability to solve complex problems.
  • Willingness to share knowledge and function under strong leadership.
  • Ability to react in fast paced and changing environment.  
  • Must have strong “can do” attitude.
  • Experience putting together and implementing programs.
  • Skill set to aid in the transition and implementation of a new SAP system while working with in the current operating system.
  • Aptitude to analyze and determine areas for cost reduction and develop a proposal for implementation

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree preferred but not required.  Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Management, or equivalent preferred, not required.

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
